Lyrics Cliché Image - Poetry Contest Sponsor: Silent One Lyrics to "The Sound Of Silence" Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed By the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs That voices never share And no one dare Disturb the sound of silence "Fools," said I, "you do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you." But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon God they made And the sign flashed out its warning And the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls." And whispered in the sound of silence ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Poem "Shouting In Raging Silence" The timepiece thumps into a million empty muffles. The beast stands still without his own voice to remember. All he can hear is…tick, tock, tick, tock. The days are short yet time reveals a century old mask. It shields reflections he carried from long ago when he was attacked by a brutal intruder. He soon remembered and begins… -Shouting in raging silence... He reaches for his young blood, but blood is too thin to survive such a savage combat. He is up too high but down low enough to sense the corruption this world has offered him. He lived with his pains hourglass. The sands of time revealed his damned life with intervals and periods spinning closer to his death. His young blood had been killed and the lonely beast cries. No one can hear him… -Shouting in raging silence… He held his lifeless young bloods corpse for days. For even though he was decaying the beast wouldn't let him go. He now lives with apprehension and will die dreading each and every tick of the clock. Time seems so slow and time seems so permanent. Without a reason to proceed in his life, he looks down below without fear. In the naked light he saw relief. The fear of staying alive is greater than the fear of dying. He has hopes to die. He has a feeling he won’t survive the pain of his loss. The abandoned beast shows no energy to keep on living. He breaths in and breaths out and releases one leg away from the ticking of the timer. With young blood in his arms, he let’s go. No remorse and no dismay. For he was finally free…as he was falling he was… -Shouting in raging silence… I chose the song "Sound of Silence" I chose picture #4 I chose cliche "Frightened to Death" ~Date Written: April 25, 2016~
