Poem
In the morning, he was tetchy, but gentle, Sitting beside me till my eyelids opened I sat up, yawning, and rubbed my eyes His hand brushed a dry tear off my face “You are alive and well, I see, gentle spirit, Even with me you thrive on the hidden joys of that furtive heart The life in your eyes thrills me, Drains me of my angers And threatens my nature I question you with curiosity only you can conjure, Why here? And why now? This is the Millennial Age, The precious priests of God are preparing In a time of jubilance and celebration, Knowing I cannot touch their elation With my trying and tempting claws God granted you and your brethren This time to wallow In only exaltation and peace, Free from sorrows and pains that I alone inflict— And yet you are here with me With no momentous hesitance, No second thought. . . Suffering freely with me Singing songs with me from your incomparable heart. . . Do you see any flames here? Of course not! They never existed to begin with, Only the pressing darkness pervades—save your probing light— Yes, He could not even grant me the privilege Of a nice prolonging burn that destructive fire provides!” Calmly, I replied, “The only Hellfire I see resides in your heart, In those eyes that are capable of hate so atrocious, But no, not at all, Not in your miserable dwelling, oh Prince. . . I must warn you, The more you abide in this light, The more challenging it will be to let it go, I know you do not want to hear this, And somewhere inside you know this, But I will say it again and again— If you are a rebel of God, In the end, you will mercifully die a rebel of God, And all your followers shall die with you Do you not see the responsibility you carry? Are you heartless to all of those whom you need? To me? He will not torture you, He will not burn you Heaven knows He will not sear you soullessly Oh, Prince, have mercy! This is why I cry at night, This is why I am here with you! This is why I fear for your soul that I know you possess! Tell me this is why you brush the dried tears from my eyes, You see the light and you want to keep it, Make it your own, But it is not yours, it is not mine— But it is the very Spirit of God, The very Spirit you despise And the very Spirit that shall smite you.” He shook his head and hushed me, singing, “This is not the end as you are so quick to envision, Oh love, do not fear such garbage! This is the beginning of a brand new element, A brand new creation original to our conjoined minds And brandished hearts You are your own, And I am mine Though together we are fate I am flattered you should consider my future in these dreary days, But you are mistaken—I am whole, and I am mighty, My future is magnificent Yes, with you, even more so His blows are powerful, but they shall not end all that is me! And you, in your surety of my soul, You should know very well, That I could not give up my own To release you from this prison and into the destruction of freedom— Into the heart of end Into the end of passion as we know it! Oh, you make me shake with wrath and desire all in one! I was born in hell, I will remain in hell I am miserable, I am mad! You know it!!! But you are here to share in the madness, so listen: Let me be the only reason you are here, Do not spark the flammable workings of shady minds past mine Do not listen to the demon, She is jealous of us, And I have put her back into her place She cannot be your witness For she sees less than us all…” “Who is she?” I whispered to him, startled, Just noticing her dreadful, glowing eyes, Watching us in the dark “She is nothing, She is nobody A follower A simpleton If you are prudent, you will Pay her no mind...” My attention averted to the fear of losing him, And I sang, “I pray, for the angel you once were, To heed my plea for your life, Soon the day will come that I will leave you And your company, only darkness, Will bind you in its voids forever I love you, oh Prince, This I do not fear to say, For the Son on high loves you more, And I will never give up on you Do not deny the power that I bring from God To not deny your end if you should turn your own way It will happen, And I will watch you die, Or I will watch you live!” His changing eyes burned menacingly into mine He knew well the courage in my heart could not be drained And the love in my soul could not be extinguished “I am the Great Fallen Angel, And I will rise again! Dark as ever, With or without your company Consent, and save me, Reject, and face my fury!”
