Poem

What do you do when that one thing that defined you
now seems to be in abundance? 
What do you say when someone asks you who you are?
Do you say your name or do you search within you for an answer?

I had something once....

It was mine
It defined me
It was who I was
Who I wanted to be
It was what I was good at
what made me stand out
what people knew me for

It was mine
I was born with it
It seemed to develop so easily
but I guess it got lost somehow
I need it to be mine
but its other people’s too
and without it I am no one
there nothing else that i can do

different people have their talents
different people have their gifts
some are blessed with many
some die n cease to exist
some treasured some ignored
some left in a state of raw
never ripened
never blossomed
didn't care to let them thaw
kept them frozen... 

it was mine
stolen by so many
it felt like mine
foolish; it was there for the ready
maybe I wasn’t ready enough
maybe I don't have it
maybe it was never mine

I want it back 
it’s the only thing that makes me feel worthy,
like I have something special
and without it
I’ll fade away
into darkness
into the void
remembered for nothing
No longer an individual
but merely a copy...
