Poem

One touch 

as you lay here, sleeping 
I watch the flickering behind your eyelids 
my hand moves of tis own voilition 
i take the measure of your skin 
with my fingertips 
just one touch 
to know your solidity 
just a little brush across your arm 
to blend my self with you 
in a small, unobtrusive way 
not to wake you 
not to demand your attention 
not to disturb your dreaming 
but simply to stake 
my claim on your next breath 
and the words you would speak to me 

I would wrap my thoughts around you 
and take you with me 
as we fall off the world 
to a place that would allow 
no apologies for needs 
or the wants that surface 
when the dark presses too close 
nor leave any room for sleep 
when imajination becomes more a torment 
than a pleasure 
this constant whirling 
and beckoning of desires 
of words and images from a 
dead past 
overtaken by a future that engulfs now 
and chokes the air 
bringing sharp joyful tears 
from my eyes and leave me trembling 
with just one touch 

my mind holds the memory of you 
in my blood 
in my bones 
in my skin 
in my eyes 
did i dream you into being 
or did my reality separate into 
the half that is alone 
and the half that is missing 
without you? 
as we are lost in our days, working 
we can choose the means of contact 
a phone call hurriedly, urgently 
igniting the senses to be 
left panting and gasping 
to douse me in holy water 
in all its divinity, i praise you 
Amen! Mi Amor! 
but here, in the hours alone, 
as your eyelids flutter in peaceful sleep 
all confusion ended 
with one touch.
