People underestimate the power of books to those who are truly in love with them. Not just the object, but the idea of the object, the words within the pages. Reading a book is so much more than just reading a book. It’s watching as people’s lives unfold before your very eyes. Fictional people, yes, but still people. It’s learning to love someone based purely on their personality, the words they say, and the things they do, instead of their looks. Books are alive in every sense of the word. They’re our teachers, our secret lovers, and our best friends. They’re the one thing you can turn to if you feel alone, because you are never alone when you are wrapped up with the characters of a good read. You can learn so many things from them if you just look. Look in between the words, directly at the words and everywhere in the middle. You might be surprised at what you learn. I know that if you look deeply enough at the Harry Potter characters, you can learn some very valuable life lessons. Lily Potter taught me that sometimes you have to sacrifice things for the people you love. Fred and George Weasley taught me that life is short so have fun while you can. Sirius Black taught me that you should always protect your loved ones, because they won’t always be around. Arthur Weasley taught me that curiosity is a good thing. Luna Lovegood taught me that it’s OK to be a weird. Who cares if you wear dirigible plum earrings to keep the nargles away? Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley taught me that friends are always going help you when you’re in trouble; not to clean up your messes, but to make them with you. Lord Voldemort taught me that a life without love is barely living, so love and love often. Percy Weasley taught me that your family will always be there for you, no matter how bad you mess things up with them. Hagrid taught me that some of the biggest people are also the biggest teddy bears; so don’t judge a book by its cover. Harry Potter taught me that you may not be able to change your past, but you sure as hell can change your future.
