The sun's face a shapeless grey
In my heart I know it has to be this way
One less child now I hold an open space
Not tears or shame or sadness can replace
The not knowing and distant feeling
Now replaced by the road to distant healing
From moment to moment the jagged line
Between I’m okay and I ‘m doing fine
Cuts through the lies to find the story
Where no amount of saying I’m sorry
Can turn the tide of a mother’s pain
Or stem the tide of sobbing refrain
The days pass by in a blur of why
Did he have to choose this way to die
Was he trying to make me feel his loss
Or just prove to me that he was boss
No matter because he left no sign
Of his desires or his design
Just a clutter of life not even half spent
And sordid traces of messages not sent
Few friends came to hold his memory or say goodbye
It was like they knew that he wanted to die
And they let him feel his way to the fall
And crush his life in a final heed to the call
Now we hold the empty frame
With no pictures to put with your name
And beg for another story to tell
One that doesn’t end up in hell
