Pleasure To Be Here! I am here at PoetrySoup because I had no voice, No expression of what was internal and inside; I used to as a child, three, four, and even two, Write poems, rhymes to myself inside my head. I hated my mum and dad’s love of that bible, Their bold authority to render its text inerrant, And gazed instead upon the books and novels, In the old, wooden bookcases in the bedrooms. I told myself that their authors and authoresses, Were far more important to me than unable god; Than one nothing that apparently wrote the book, Who only punctured and deflated my confidence. They were people, and plus which, not imposing, They stood at a distance so didn’t impose on me, So I could read their thoughts and concepts fine, At my leisure, just as myself, as I was and as I am. I recited to my dad a poem once when I was four, But he just jeered, scolded and was with evil looks, So from then on I assuredly lied to them always, About what I was thinking and my gift for words. Even as a teenager my parents wanted to know, My poetry stored on my disk, but I didn’t ever tell, But one night at four in the morning, very quietly, My dad broke into my computer to read the lines. So I’m here at PoetrySoup for the kind interaction, Because I have the right to my own identity, voice; I have the right to, just as anyone has, write poetry, And to become reality and not be introversive meek. I have always had a kind of outgoing personality, Which comes with spirited giggles at some jokes, So, although I considered using a happy pseudonym, Just had to call myself Rhoda Monihan, by my name. I searched the net for an interactive site, most lively, Where poets could talk to each other and comment, On each others poems and share views and angles, And where I could learn the art more than before. I hope that you will just enjoy my poetry, if you can, Because I enjoy writing it for you, it makes my day, And hope you will become educated about politics, And sensitive about my various diversities roared. But I also hope that you will see that you can think, Rationalise about things you thought you could not, Like god, religion, Jesus, disability, carers, ethics, Because morality's not given, but made by me, you. You make it better, you make me free, my sunrise, I have free thought with you as I'm not questioned, Not derided, objectified by a belle freedom of speech, And I'm better for you and hope you will all prosper.
