Poem
When I woke the next day, He was lying beside me, breathing steadily I was no longer on the hard, monstrous back of the leviathan My hands were burned from its horns, I was laid upon his wings, Burdened by taunting dreams Taunting realities “Today, I shall answer your questions,” Softly, I arose, confused. “Questions?” “Long ago you spoke to me, A letter written by your youthful fingers You addressed me so respectfully, Worrying most who beheld such a dedication.” I remembered the words, Closing my eyes, turning beside the Prince “You need not answer now… The Lord will show Me, Has shown me, where your mind lies, How vain it is to find a softness to your heart How stark your future reflects upon your sickened mind I don’t need to know how little I was, How strong I have become How weak you make me feel. All I need to know now is why.” He hushed me, staring into my eyes. “Let me answer you, oh sweet, sweet soul… Long ago, your hesitance to come before me, Was a burden upon my thumping breast, Was a heartache for your heated desire You were but insignificant to me Whilst I, immersed in abolishing, Plotted against your brothers and sisters, And the angels, and God Himself In your meekness, you lied, For you have always been in the game You contended with me every single day you drew breath! You considered me jealous of your place, Of the human, higher than the angels, Blessed from the start of creation You declared me passionate for your touch, In which was not a lie; From your cries, I soon longed for your impotence Begged for your secret, sacred belligerence You claimed yourself humble, innocent Not worthy of your place your God had granted you You spoke to me as a gentle mother, cooing her child, But I was not the child that day as you were Tears falling from your widened eyes, Stunned by my power over the earth, Crushed by my recalcitrant spirit You said you were poisoned with the truth, That you could not if you wanted, stand with me Yet here you are, breathing with me, creating with me, Seeing my way The very truth that makes you up so led your heart here In this birthing age… Your soul glowing in my abode My dear, beautiful woman, You rejected the fate of the ordinary For you understood my beauty more than any other You held me up on weak arms, Shaky, fragile arms, And my currents strengthened your hold You never fell that day upon the soil, Emptied, saddened by the death of your love You never fell that day, but rose to your new fate Trusting that I had qualities you have forever wished to gain You became free from Him, Only just for a little while You must allow yourself, slave of truth, oh heart so near, To accept what is rightfully yours You have me, the Now In return, I want you forever…” Was there sadness in his eyes, Or was he plotting, his lying tongue waiting Crouching to pounce upon my life? Was there sorrow in his posture? His wings lowered, His shoulders drooped, Muscles tense, fighting what I deem tears, Or was he joyous in these threatening moments? “Remember when our lips touched? How good we felt, the breeze between.. We were stronger then… Yet realizing the place He set you in, Shackles growing in your veins, Emotions left you, slave, Righteousness bound you And you turned me away…” Rising higher over me, he set his great hand upon my shoulder “Yet, as I knew, As I have anticipated, Even hoped, You would again return to me You have chosen to be with me Even only just for a little while… See, a little while, is all I need A little while is all you need For you to be with me, free.” He kissed my forehead, slowly, Immersed in that undying moment As I stood there rigid and speechless “Now you have opened my eyes, You have freed such a flower in me To realize, that the child you were is gone You no longer need my answers, You need my love, You need my hand You have become part of my plan Assuredly, I swear, Just as you have done before, You will thank me And we will share in the indulgent fruits of our labor, Blooming, always blooming” Note: You don't know how excited I am to post new sections every week. (Yes, this is happening every week now, till I get to day 20, then I am taking a wee break) And I am so grateful for the encouraging comments. I love you guys so much, and thank you for believing in me! Without you, I don't think I would have ever gotten this far really.... For a long, long time, this idea of a series between the Devil and a chosen one of God has been plaguing my mind. The inspiration started blooming after writing “Dear Lucifer” written and posted July 2013. This section (Day 15) is the Devil’s consideration in response to this letter.
