Poem
Friends, a lifeboat can pose a dilemma to all! Let’s imagine like Noah that you’ve built an arc But then night comes and lightning bolts shatter the dark. It seems prophesied rain is beginning to fall. You are feeling relieved that your deadline was met All the cargo aboard, safely stored, children fed, You’ve not even a thought for the troubles ahead And though rain’s pouring now from the sky you’re not wet. As rain pummels the earth fields are turning to lakes And your neighbors that laughed start to gather outside From the sound of their calls there’s some shortage of pride As with each passing hour they confront their mistakes. But this lifeboat’s not theirs and it’s filled to the brim Though you’re weeping inside as they suffer their fate And when boat starts to move it’s already too late Soon the voices subside but the meaning seems grim. Never helpful from start neighbors all missed the boat Not believing in God or His judgment of man Still today people wonder if this was God’s plan And think God if He’s real is an unfeeling goat. Modern Science’s findings doubt truth of a flood Claiming all of earth’s water not up to the task Eighty meters apparently all we can ask So all land under water would seem to be dud. Now if Science and Bible should clash who’s contrite? Could we ever deny that they both come from God, There’s no way if He’s real that His gifts are a fraud Is the Bible in error if Science is right? But what Science reveals can be proved without pain While what Gospel means changes with what men hold dear, For with sin in the world love can lose out to fear And to entertain Satan seems man’s likely gain! Well for me it is clear that God’s real, I’ve no choice So the story of lifeboat must be metaphor And Christ’s teaching continues what God did before. But with Science it seems God has found a new voice. This creation of God’s is a fount of man’s joy And considered as indirect proof He exists Even though it is clear that pain also persists, And freewill is certainly not a child’s toy. But then add to the mix that each man has a soul And a soul that’s immortal, your death only sleep Yes, some lives are much shorter, but why do we weep If reunion with God is our ultimate goal. The real truth is that nobody knows what is true Time here less about knowledge and more what we feel But the true gifting comes when you buy the whole deal You just empty your pockets of all that’s not you.
