Poem
Sunday night quickly becomes Monday morning This happens with little or no warning The week ahead is on my mind Day one of five of the weekly grind A two-day weekend is not enough to unwind Another week working for the man Simply surviving till the weekend is my plan Hurrying to clock in by eight Running from the station because the train was late Work for four hours then lunch from twelve to one Eating alone is not much fun Four hours pass and I clock off at five Thought boredom would kill me but am still alive Monday and Tuesday Are no different to Wednesday and Thursday At least Friday means only one more day to last And four of the five days of grind are in the past I arrive home to the question of what did you do today The response is simply the same as yesterday Its always the same crap just a different day It’s time to question this weekly grind I say I refuse to be a prisoner of the weekly grind Knowing of it and doing nothing is choosing to be blind This is not a good enough life My resentment towards the grind is rife When I think about how much time is consumed by the grind It truly blows my mind If you have a day off from the grind A day’s wages is lost as if you have been fined The grind is so important in terms of money Like a bee is to a flower or the production of honey There must be other ways to make some cash Without having to face the weekly grind and its heavy bash My dream is to be something more Am not interested in 9-5 or 8-4 Perhaps my words will someday provide some wealth But if it doesn’t at least I will have my health With no grind I would have so much more time Time to be creative, time to rhyme The ability to sleep in whenever I need Not having to contribute to our big corporation greed A farewell to the weekly grind I shall give You will always be there but for now I choose to live I don’t want to be caught up in the rat race My life for the moment needs a different pace No longer will I be a victim of the weekly grind To the weekly grind I simply say kiss my behind
