Poem
I call you Mr Primitive Because no one will know who you are Another little secret we now share We go way back in time Spanning three decades I believe Are we really that old? Such time has passed We are still friends Always there for each other Although these days not always in person Many months can pass no word spoken Maybe a message here and there We have our memories And joint knowledge each other are there When we met I was a bag of nerves No confidence A single parent with three young boys Abused and violated throughout my life Barely out of my teens I was fragile Had trust issues I was scared of my own shadow Living on a huge estate Known for its violence I feared for my boys’ future A decision one day changed my life I met you In a small community centre Within the heart of my concrete prison A man with sexy blue eyes The biggest flirt in the entire universe Your reputation preceded you It was easy to see why I took no notice of warnings Gossip was rife Expected in a small commune of course I volunteered in the coffee bar You took me under your wing Showed me what I could achieve You involved me with the community Seeing skills in me I’d left in the past Taught me to believe in myself To be independent and strong My mentor My friend Always there with encouraging words Sometimes more Stolen kisses during working hours Passion galore once alone Unnecessary meetings attended Minutes delivered personally Our private meetings sensual Frantic desire A hunger A thirst We formed a bond never broken A mutual almost innocent love Teaching and guiding me Through life and hard times Always first at my side When it mattered the most With a dazzling smile Or stupid comment Your presence fixing many a problem Some more than you know I know you hate slushy stuff You try to be such a bloke Not needing anyone or anything Golf and beer enough to satisfy you now Oh I forgot the food Your three loves in life No room for anything else You would never admit it but you’re scared Of getting hurt like the rest of us Determined never to let anyone too close again I gave up trying to understand you I accept and love you for what you are So complex Contradictory We are so different In every single way Yet friends we still are Our relationship has gone full circle Friends Lovers Friends once more We live an ocean apart I am living my life as I please A selfishness taught by you “We only have one so live it” You said So I did and never looked back My boys now men Fathers with daughters of their own I was free to fly And I did I am living the life I wanted My wings spread wide with happiness everyday You are my inspiration One I admire and adore So I thank you my dear friend I am here because I met you And made me the woman I am Living and loving life As only I can
