Poem
There were times when I'd a desire to be great, Your respect, and appreciation would lift my shoulders up. A tincture of flattery was enough for me to be manipulated, Because that was the only reward for which I did struggle, I used to see the mirror and wonder whether everyone would like, Your opinion was far more important than was mine. It was difficult for me to see someone win, And so did I always win to make your hands meet in applause. Though I enjoyed the held-high-up life, something was incomplete, Something that came along as I suddenly discovered myself a day. And that fine day on, I've grown stronger, I'm me, As now I laugh on what I've done before. I don't want to be your favourite any more, I don't want to be Mr. Perfect. Oh! The hero! Cool Dude! Popular guy! This is damn not that I long for. I want to be the eagle of my own sky, The horizon of my unexplored blue. My own pinnacle of excellence, success, The epitome of honesty and wisdom. It's not your affection, I aim to obtain, Nor your attention makes me feel pleased. The love that I've developed in self, Is greater than any exaggerated emotion. None of your achievements give me envy now, None of your extravagant talent does make me feel low, I say, 'You carry on buddy! ' As I choose a skill and develop it with my own pace, No haste, only dedication, interest and I'm sure I'm going to make it. I still read tragedies, but the approach I now have has turned, The ballads still ring my ears, but the melody is much different. I still shed some tears, but even they seem something worth it, Because, Yes, I've started loving Self! Yes I've done that! Yes, I've learned to sink into the deeper depths of my thoughts, Yes, I've learned to walk out of the unrestrained desert of loneliness. Not that I've forgotten the shallow emptiness, I had been in in for long, Just that I've found something better to carry on. It's my life now and you are just a small star in my sky, I confess how I love myself more than anyone out there. Now I'm myself the equator and both the poles as well, Because, Yes, I've started loving Self! Yes I've done that!
