Poem
May There was a very old woman named May. In a nursing home she would stay. Taken from chair to her bed; Was blind and had to be fed. No words, just a constant muttering sound. No family or friends ever came around. A young nurse, recently hired Did much more than required. Nurse Pat talked of her day In a most jubilant way. Often combed May’s hair, And provided fresh sheets. Shared her chocolates, And other fine treats. Frail May was always left in her room. It did not matter, others seemed to assume. One sunny day The kind nurse found a wheelchair. She gently lifted May on And pushed her everywhere. They ended their trip. A sunroom seemed fit. To the nurse’s surprise… Tears flowed from May’s eyes. Barbara Campbell
