Poem
The Beauty of Charkha the Spinning Wheel 2 The Poem is dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi and his Charkha Cotton has always won the hearts Of every men and women In every age Whether it was the time of Dark Ages Or the dawn of new awakening When the world witnessed The fruits of knowledge and new adventures Which were emerging, one after another Bewildering the human race By its lofty discoveries and new inventions Amid the passions and craze in both young and old For reading and writing, For sailing on the waves of high seas Or creating the beauty on the canvas For decorating the great walls of art galleries and shrines By the timeless beautiful paintings. This was time when singing and dancing Were enchanting the youth To invent new Ragas and steps of dance To woo their lovely sweethearts Without caring for distances differences Without thinking about the heights and depths And high rising waves. It was an era when the languages and cultures Of the newly discovered places and people New cities, towns and ports New climatic zones were appearing on the maps Alluring the mighty rulers to expand their boundaries And to rapidly change new countries and lands On the earlier stamped maps As the earlier cartographers Had not the vision to see Beyond the limits of their mind and Earth And beyond the mighty seas. But their dreams were fulfilled By the valor and efforts of the devoted strong sailors Who were thirsty to throw their boats Without caring for the winds and shores And without fearing the soaring foam of shores. As many of them were crazy to buy The most precious gift of that time In the form of cotton dresses Made from the priceless soft cotton Weaved on the Charkhas of East. Till then the beauty and charms of Charkha In the form of soft and cozy hand spun fabrics Was touching the lofty heights Amid the crazy young and old And the beautiful women of that time Who were too happy to keep it Very close to their body and hearts To become a star in the eyes Of those elegant men and women Who were wealthy and the rich And were enjoying the power of that century To pay any price To posses and feel Cotton's soothing touch and comforts To impress their beloved and mistress As the main attraction of those ladies Were in those fabrics and dresses Which had the beauty of Charkha Woven in its threads.
