Poem
Unconscious but not at rest The heartbeat slowing in my chest Caught inside this living dream Unable to wake, unable to scream Every day I wander this maze My thoughts shrouded in smoky haze When will I no longer see your face How long till I forget our fall from grace The memory of you still haunts these halls Your image engraved in every wall I rest my eyes but I cannot flea The illusion of what you use to be A phantom of the woman I held tight A gleaming spirit dressed in white This ghost dwells within my mind Something that I cannot leave behind Every day it holds me down Any longer and I will surely drown Because the dreams I had have long since passed Thrown into the abyss dim and vast This vision of you is not real It doesn’t live, it doesn’t feel The hallucination goes on and on But I’ve been asleep for far too long I am shouting to the sky tonight I’m sick of the story that you write Please, let me out of this empty void So that I may rebuild what you destroyed Because isolation has grown so old I’m ready to come in out of the cold To feel the warmth of hope flow over my soul And begin to reclaim all that you stole Out the door you thought you were free When all along it was really me The chains on my heart fall away As I blaze the trail of this new day I’m breaking out of this delusion Never to live in your seclusion No longer bound to our crippled past These nights of sorrow are gone at last In the face of struggle I come alive For a better life I will always strive Now I am washing away these toxic stains Fueled by the inferno in my veins This heart on fire is tried and true It won’t give out no matter what you do The nightmare you formed is falling apart And into the light I now depart But the darkness I left is coming for you So that you may feel its torment too Maybe not today but there is no doubt That you can’t escape the impending drought Because we all must reap what we sow And a field of woe is what you grow Planting the seeds of your dismay Unaware of how far you’ve strayed I tried to save you from this plight I said take my hand, it will be alright But you looked away and sealed your fate And I am forced to wipe this slate I’ll light it up and burn it down And the ash will rain without a sound As you rot up on that barren throne I carve the path that will be my own I do not know how or when But someday I will love again There’s a girl out there who will be mine So keep on leaving, I’m just fine
