Poem
March 18-27 This time I woke, He was staring readily, Smiling, plotting steadily I lifted my body and gently gazed at his grotesque beauty He was always at his best in thought… “You look ravishing…” He began. “Mouth-parched, crusty-eyed, hair frazzled- The true shock of splendor, right here! And my, I thought Death reeked!” I laughed heartily and kissed his forehead “Good morning to you too Putrid Prince- Your compliments worry me, Do not charm me back to sleep.” His eyes narrowed, his wide eyes figuring me out “I hurt you yesterday…..” “That you did, Prince.” “Yes.” I pondered his outward anger the day before, Gently handing him the reigns to our new song “If you are still angry . . . please sing. . .” His nostrils flared at my calm command, Though still, he sang, “Bite, boil, and simmer Your God has taught you well, Your wrath from latter years Still haunt you in your hopes and fears I’ve granted you my beautiful tongue You refuse to let such pain rattle you You refuse to allow this snake To whisper your imminent downfall- To reveal your colossal mistake of existing before me, The Prince of Darkness, aptly named indeed You come down to me in unimpressive humility Expecting me to fall weakly into your arms, Lulled by some mediocre challenge Expecting me to believe you only wish to be In my hellish company So that you may know me… Yes, so you may crush me like a bug on its back Helplessly flailing its appendages in shame and defeat Crushing me in your mortar of sweet, celestial blend Offering laughter to my insult And gentleness to my fury You test me, I detest you For I know where I stand And I know, tortuous Time tells me, You shall leave me again…” There was deep malice and hurt in his voice … I wished for a lighter song, Though these feelings called for a heavier tone Of which in sorrow I complied, “Anger, the swift avenger, jealous contender, He plays as your friend to hide protruding hurt To hide the weakness you try so desperately to conceal When your heart feels weary, you spit and shout As it offers leeway for your generous pout Your friend Anger also reveals you are proud Your mind races endlessly, for a new insult to God I fear not His name as you fear not His wrath For the anger He knows takes the narrower path I seek not to feed your friend with His glorious light, A bug on your back, I will set you upright I could never bear to crush and hear the crunch, Of your body and juices, melting in this muck I’d much rather marvel as your mind turns and turns To feel the flames lick the bones, to feel your frenzied burn I shall never leave such a mind unless your mind gives me up, Falling into the abyss with his heart beside… Letting me go…passed turbulence and woe… Let’s force the page forward – let us turn the tide, And let our friend Anger rest, though if not, hide…” His claws caught my arm as he replied, “Ah, but restless be my friend named Anger, For he sees a lovely girl with a raunchy heart He knows you well, buried in that dark, dark place you hide He needs not hide, no; he’d rather meet you, Touch you, bless you, eat you, complete you In his arms you will no longer feel my claws, For your body and emotions will fuse you across, Wastelands of ever-impending pains, Laced in insane frustrations, Anger is caged You feed him and feed him little bits of scraps And you pat him tenderly on your lap One day he will hold you through and through And show you wonders you never thought you knew My good friend, Anger, you and he would get along, As much as he loves my presence, he lusts your song… Wretched girl, no pain I feel When Anger twists the wanting reel Bake me, boil me, simmer me down, Anger returns with a happier frown Always and onward, as sure as there be passion, You cannot escape the burns, you cannot ration Nothing makes sense in the screaming, That’s what makes my friend Anger…. so appealing…” He hummed in reverie at the thought of his friend, His eyes closed in some sick dream His long hand took mine, the fingers and claws closing around Conjuring such fury without a single sound “I hurt you yesterday…” He whispered forcefully in my ear. “And today I shall hurt you more…” “Yes, and you have allowed me to grow…and for that I thank you.” He choked at the glow in my eyes, Nearly losing himself in them as he held me close His breathing lighter, but faster Seeking hurt long pardoned “…don’t let me go.”
