In Response to Carolyn Devonshire

Artist Ansel Adams and a Deceased War Veteran Widow

Beautiful things begin by being black and white
So you can start off and get things right
Saving a place for each picture in your heart
Even though his and my mind are miles apart.

At another great picture of his will look
And then think about all of the time it took
To explain in a black and white picture form,
A bright day about to become a big storm

Her renderings were all that remain behind
It was not pleasant or ever very kind
While her husband had been buried below
She may be only one who will know.

Why shouldn't next thing be a necessity?
Which will replace all of her self-pity
That does provide pride in what we do;
Why shouldn't her dreams have come true?

It is so sad now that only remains
Memories covered with miserable tear stains
When she had taken her last look back
There are things in this picture it does lack.
