A pile of ashes on the ground
Muddy footprints all around
A smoking ember here and there
The reek of burning everywhere

Bits of paper strewn about
A banger with its fuse gone out
Rocket launchers, an empty pack
Grass, in patches, scorched and black

Sparklers with their twisted wire
lie abandoned round the fire
A rocket stick from who knows where
had missed the greenhouse by a hair

A fence despoiled by a smokey swirl
where once a flaming wheel did whirl
The nail remains, but not much more
Just a burned and twisted core

A lump of blackened silver foil
lies forlornly on the soil
A baked potato lies within
Cremated in a shroud of tin

All across the UK nation
stand tiny scenes of devastation
Like battles fought by gnomes and elves
Not just a fun night for ourselves
