Poem
Regina Riddle is 48 She’s been married – twice Her first marriage lasted 23 years And gave her heart some lasting fears She’s struggled through some tender moments And found herself bursting into tears But through it all she’s trusted in the Lord He’s been her rock and very best friend For many years, Regina yearned for a baby And discovered her fallopian tubes were blocked She went to doctors and they did some work A laser laparoscopy and in-vitro-fertilization Both of which failed to do what they were intended to So she remains a childless woman with a deep desire To see the eyes, hear the giggles, hug the bundle That would have been her precious little boy Or her beautiful little girl Over the years, through tears and fears, Regina has always turned to her words She’s written intermittently and incessantly Always discovering new ways to say the very same things That she loves more than she can say Dreams much wilder than she can hope And believes much deeper than she can voice And through all the inspirations that whisper through her days She finds a way to believe that there will always be more New dreams, new visions, new muses And, always, there are!!! Regina discovered, in 2009, that she is bipolar And that when over just fine She realized – after so many years of dealing with the highs and lows, There was a reason for her madness A reason that wasn’t even her own fault And, to her great relief, there were magic pills, That would keep her tears at bay, Her insomnia away and her feelings much more safe. Regina also learned, from trial and error, That she enjoys learning and she went back to college There she is today, taking the classes she loves… Writing code to change how a web page performs And now she looks forward to graduation day next May Then finding that new job where her skills can be put to use And where her employer will appreciate her muse. Regina is, to me, a very resourceful woman One who has gone through her share of pain Healed and learned to believe in herself And above all else, to put God where he belongs, As the very first One to know the depths of her heart As the One who she loves beyond anything mere words could reveal And the only One to guide her steps as she walks From moment to moment in this beautiful place called God’s world!!! ©2014 by Regina Riddle For: SKAT A’s KEEP IT REAL POETRY CONTEST
