Poem
I got lost in the clear purple sky at twilight as she talked about how perfect this little hide away was. I couldn’t agree more. Faint stars were beginning to come into focus. Sitting at a sidewalk café miles from home in a slow little town. A town so quiet the crickets drowned out the faint sound of passing cars. I slid the glass of tequila with a splash of coffee toward her. We were sharing this large demon concoction already feeling stoned with so much yet to go. She sipped and made a face and slid it back. I watched as people passed by: most stopping to say hello. It was surreal like something out of a small town movie. A table of young girls probably just starting college sat behind us. I wondered if they had wild dreams and hopes to change the world with the “knowledge” they could only gain from four years of reading books, and thirty years of paying them off. Did they have big dreams or simply following a path laid out for them? Were they aware of the two boys looking at them smirking with devious intent? The ones who were glancing over and whispering to each other of the awful ravaging they would like to deliver.Participants in the age-old tradition of talking a big game neither will ever get off their ass to play. We finished up our food I was still enticed by the beautiful clear sky and the warm summer night. I listened to the crickets, finished mybeer, and tried to take the last big swig of that awful demon concoction. The poison touched the back of my tongue and I gagged. I spit the sip back in the cup and took a deep breath to calm my quivering stomach. "Are you going to throw up" I heard. "I don't know" I said in an uncomposed bout of honesty. It was going to be a long drive home. At least the music and companie would be enjoyable. A small price to pay for a splendid day at perfect hide away. (there is a much filthier version of this one too but its mine ;)
