Poem
1. Age my loving friend, From the instant, I was born at that specific time You and I inseparable remained Holding hands as years have been passing slowly one After the other 2. We were never separated, Although when young, eager was I to hurry forward, and When older I grew, I yearned to linger a little bit Behind But you, My wise counselor, ceaselessly, was unyielding, Advising me by your side to stay always For only in that way, you told me, would I happy be, When in harmony I followed your pace. In that way, you said, I could see and learn and understand everything, As it should be and at its proper time. 3. Together through an impressive string of Stunning transformations we went, We were young and fresh, daring, and provoking, Inquisitive and challenging, energetic and resourceful at many times. So The pick of our vigor we soon reached and glorified life 4. The years though started passing fast before our own eyes. The mood changed eventually and cautious became, Less daring, less challenging, less energetic, and less eager, But Always interested we were to see what was coming. 5. One day gray hair appeared that soon turned into white, And shortly after wrinkles started to be apparent But you and I, my friend, clinched we were to one another, Never let each other’s hand For All these years I have learned to trust you, your Wisdom and judgment Because You never stopped amassing me, never ceased teaching me a lesson. In that way, I grew up and fell in love with all, I was doing. 6. Till my last moment, I know very well that you will never let me down For your faces are innumerable, your lessons are unending The rewards you have offered me so far and Those, you still intend to me to offer. No matter how old I come to be, All of them are precious, all blessed, and all divine. 7. Now that life’s road I see is coming to a conclusion I would like, from the bottom of my heart, to Thank you without fail, For holding my hand that long a dear time Because I know too many of my friends that such a chance was Never to them presented. 8. For all these reasons, Age my adoring friend, from me You will never hear complaints, Because I have come to know so well That As long as I keep getting old, I will succeed alive To remain! 9. How could I not be happy with you, my generous Loving Age? © Demetrios Trifiatis 26 AUGUST 2014
