Maundy Thursday, we know clearly, The Christ did say: "Remember me..." The ritual tale of the Master, Washed feet availed, fond kiss rendered. How humble then, that sacred act Of loving grand in precious pact. The supper room where The Christ held A meal to groom those love would weld. All twelve round a Master bold; Shared bread to ground pain's sure threshold. That deep dark night when light and dark Arose to fight in clashing sparks. That certain stay of heaven's sway Upon the play of man's sure say. That fateful time for love's sure say To conquer chimes for Eden's pay. The Master speaks with loving voice, That love must peak in gracious choice. They gather round, these edgy men; Fear spreads the ground in gloomy span. The Christ knows well how things will end; Discerns and dwells on this frail band. Changed bread and wine with miracle To life divine for the table. This mystery we cannot see; Faith and hope see eternally. Fear floods the room at supper spread; In certain gloom, this band afraid. Knowing the way, The Christ gestures That all dismay will bring closure. The path is set, the way is shown; All pain is met with love well-known. No need to run, no need to hide; Just brave each sun with love's joy ride. Yeshua, The Christ prayed for mankind: "May love your prize fill heart and mind." "A new command I give to you: As I have done, Love facts from you." Supper over, the garden tryst; Christ at prayer, sleepers amiss. Bloody sweat ooze from troubled Christ; As three men snooze in sleepy splice. Then traitor comes with cohort strong; Fatal kiss sums Christ in the throng. How vain the ways of power then: Judas betrays the Son of Man. The cause sets loose the final act; A hangman's noose for condemned fact. False trial to show a flawed mindset; To kill love's glow in a set trap. Perjury knows vain power lust; A tainted show that condemns trust. So history records the scam Of misery in hostile camp. Justice is blind, faith is tested; Love now aligns firm soul jestered. That old empire where Romans ruled, Collapsed in fire with crazy fools. Yet here this day, we sense the same Old antics play in satire's name. Traitors, we each betray the truth; Seek to scratch itch with cynic proof. With solemn hearts, we chant mantras; Mimic old parts, new agendas! The world had changed with changing times; Yet evil range sparks cause for rhymes! So on and on, we seem to stage Here and beyond, hurl devious rage. Leon Enriquez 18 Apr 2014 Singapore
