Poem
I wish I had my dad by Its a song i sung for years and years with wet eyes and a bitter heart I wanted to learn from him I wanted to laugh with him I wanted to hear from him But he was gone, Never to come back It was a reality i had to face The rest of my life Without a father you can never have feathers In the night as i slept on an empty stomach I feasted on my salty tears Cursing God for taking him away I was a torn apart orphan I never celebrated fathers' day It was my moaning day Like each night I was in this world But one morning this dream....ended I woke up from sleep I couldn't believe how the bad dream had ended It was more of a nightmare With tears still in my eyes I rose from despair And... My loving father was standing by A godly simple man He is here... He called me...."son!" With a voice that heals the rejection So deep and sweet That you can tell its his alone After many years of pain in the dream God brought him back Not to replace anyone but to take his place as my dad A close friend and a patriarch i will always cherish A great teacher and faithful husband to my sweet mom When all hope was gone And shadows of the past started walking by God knew, time had come To bring my real dad Dad You provide and protect me You shine light in the way for me to love God even more In your silence you mentor me When you speak you motivate me You're my greatest inspiration in the world That i say from my deepest soul Soon we will stand together And feed those small birds together Laughing together As you teach me How we, the Carters Succeed in life And the secrets of being a real man Your love shows me how much more God loves me I promise to always be a son you are proud of Your only son and friend One who will be willing to go when you send Who will listen when you speak And one who will laugh with you And pray with you always I am glad that dream never came true Now that you are hear Your son Rodgers Roger Carter Dedicated to my miracle Dad Jim Carter, A man so simple yet so strong
