Why the Bells are Ringing Response to Leonard Cohen’s ‘Jazz Police’ The bells are ringing because the dominant culture of the old world is afraid of the new world coming out of hiding. We have finally decided to come out after a long time. I have been sitting longer than a week. I can believe that it is time to take a stand and open the ears of the old. The old world is trying to ban my influence on my world and return it to the old drab of the past. They are speaking to everyone I know in order to get rid of me in any way. To the point of taking my loved ones away. Their orders are final and to stop all resentment. Millenials drop your act it’s the continuation of the old world culture. He is only taken serious by those who have not experienced anything else and are closed minded. He is only taken joyous by the few who can use him to control the lambs that are being led into the slaughterhouse. The old world is endorsed and led by the cult of ignorance The new world is endorsed and led by those who say no to foolishness. I hear you calling my name to come back to the tradition you believe is true. I feel sad for you. Those in the old world have forgotten that their ways were once new. I am sick of the lies and blocks you set before me; therefore, I am falling, I'm falling out of favor with you on my own terms. It is comical that a racist can love freedom The chief seems so comical; therefore, I applaud My country tell me Am I in trouble for having different beliefs. Of course they will never understand our culture, because they are close minded They will never understand They work for my ancestors Death is more acceptable than working out the differences I will be what I want to be I am the one down the street Just give me another reason to go forward. There are other people like me whom are looking for another reason to go forward. Jazz police I hear you calling I feel sad for you. Those in the old world have forgotten that their ways were once new. I am sick of the lies and blocks you set before me; therefore, I am falling, I'm falling out of favor with you on my own terms. The old world is still trying to ban my influence on my world. Their orders are final and to stop all resentment They are still trying hard. They have got their orders. The bells will always ring when a threat to the old world is made apparent by the new world. Do not worry change is always happening. We are an imperfect society acting like we are perfect in order to give a false allusion of the world with a false dogma.
