Poem
Bodies were lying on the ground, from the echoes of prison there was no sound. Their hearts were wounded their minds were shattered, the uniforms they wore were torn and tattered. The soilders that remained were far but few, but still they held our flag of the red, white and blue. They knelt beside the wounded and the dead, for the burial of their fellow soilders they would most certainly dread. Some were young and some were old, but their memory they will always proudly behold. The bombs exploded as they hid behind a rock, now shameful to say some only recieved a pine made box. Smoke still surrounded them at that lonley battle ground, as they gathered the wounded without making a sound. You see this war they fought had such a big cost, for all of the lives they so dearly lost. Some still live their lives with all of the pain and strifes, as the violent images still cut like a knife. They sit there thinking if only others could walk in our shoes, now most of these soilders have no home to come home to. Some bare scars even yet today, for the cost of our freedom we could never repay. Some are homeless Vets on the street, and some just need a place to rest their tired feet. They protected our country with all they had, now what help they get is all so sad. Please give thanks to our troops each day, for the kindness they express we could never repay.
