Poem

I hide in the shadows,
shadows of my fears.
They consume me,
threatening to tear me alive.
One emotion after the next,
Until there's nothing left.

I fear my dreams,
The way they always turn against me.
Why must dreams be a reality?
Wouldn't that make it hopeless longing,
while you wish for a life you can't have?
Or would it be endless torture,
turning your deepest desires,
into utter fear.
Until hope is gone forever.

Then there's a smile.
The one that can hide so much.
Its like a locked file,
you know what it is,
you just don't know whats in it.
Yet your craving to know.
Aching to see the secret.
Yet to no avail,
making you go insane.

I don't see why things are like this.
Is it life that does it?
Or the longing to see what lies ahead.
It pointless anyway,
if you give it a thought.
Trying to figure out something,
when its just going to end anyway.
There's no reset button in life.
Making regret a useless rope.
To tug on it all day long,
trying to turn it back.
Then coming to realization,
that everything was wrong.

A drop of blood is all it takes.
A scream of the night
and all is right.
Laying six feet under,
staring with unseeing eyes,
at the stars above.
Maybe then will i start to notice,
that life doesn't get retries.
And everything I know, 
wouldn't be a lie.
