Poem

I open the door to pleasure, 
to see what I treasure. 
I walk slowly past, 
my hand trailing, 
looking at last, 
not failing 

This towering wall, 
is calling me, 
inviting me, 
planting the seed. 
Urging me to read 
and I answer that call 

These narrow cloisters, 
my hunting ground. 
Seeking that elusive book, 
for I search and look 
for what needs to be found 

No need to explore, 
final frontiers, 
open the book, 
take a look, 
you will see more 

For you travel far, 
in a book, 
further than any distant star, 
go on! take a look! 

Your  imagination travels to a distant land, 
tall mountains, 
rolling sea, 
warm breeze. 
all this,you hold in your hand 

For books are the soul 
in which our imaginations play a role 

Your eyes caress every page, 
the story untold, 
turn the leaf, 
let your imagination unfold 

These books hold, 
terror,fire, 
ice and cold 
also warmth and wit, 
enough for a laughing fit 

A book can hold such emotion, 
touch you deep, 
tighten your grip, 
bite your lip, 
make you weep. 
Such a cocktail! 
Such a potion! 

To change the world, 
for the book wields enormous power, 
my imagination,uncurled 

My speed of thought, 
takes me far, 
further than anything my teachers have taught, 
past any galaxy or distant star 

For the love of books, 
I search crannies and nooks, 
for I will travel,I wage, 
for when I open the first page. 
I do not need to try, 
for I am transported, 
no need to fly 

This book I hold, 
lets my imagination unfold. 
This beautiful thing, 
let its words ring 
and the joy it can bring 

In my book I can be  anything, 
from sea 
to bubbling brook, 
I lose my being, 
I take another look. 

So much to be, 
so much to see 

For what is written, 
you are smitten, 
to travel far, 
past galaxy and distant star
