Poem
The night passes onward The fear of sleeping, like a coward The dark past is drilled into the back of his mind Just wish he could go back and rewind Back through the broken hourglass overflowing with the sands of time He can’t drown his demons, they know how to swim As the moon aligns higher in the sky, he knows he can’t win The mental scars that infiltrate his tattooed kingdom of a body The feeling of being unworthy…. A nobody…. Fills his decimated circuits of impending memories To the point of impact so all he sees Is his former hero of a father unleashing a beating But don’t you see the night is young… This is only the beginning The beginning of the night terrors storming his head Years will pass by, but he will never forget Forget about the hell he faced during childhood He would rather forget if he could He is the King throughout the day Portraying the mask of confidence and happiness with every sway But when the sun goes down So does his confident crown An insomniac is born & swallowed whole by the night The weariness & sleeplessness gets too hard to fight Here is where the war of dark memories commence And reality at that point makes no sense The unconscious screaming & frantic movements scurry through the night Then the awakening sudden frights strike Strike the mind, with the body sweating from the battles waging on So he drowns his fears with the lyrics of his favorite songs To block out all the dark memories sieging his castle of dreams He falls to his knees His crown falls to the ground He looks out to the stars until they fall The sun rises & the cycle restarts He is a dreamer full of fear Waiting for the next night terror He will sit upon his throne until the sun sets once again Because it is those dark sickening memories he could never forget As he closes his eyes at night He returns back to the time, when he was a kid living in complete darkness full of fright. That is when he feels trapped inside. Like a labyrinth chained to the burden with no place to run or hide Only left alone with a terror filled mind……
