Standing watch, guardian of the night
Powerless, no control
His angel, slipping from this world
Summoned to a higher realm
With lack of a peaceful departure

Restless is he 
For he must yield his power
To the carrier of the night
Whom blissfully makes his journey
To collect his list of souls

There is no harsher moment
When the angel lays his head to rest
For the final time, in agony
Soon to be relieved
Renewed in freshness

The clock strikes it's deathly toll
The guardian ends his final shift
With a deep goodbye, in simple form
A gentle kiss upon the head
Of the dying angel

The body to be pronounced deceased
The soul to live on forever
For now it is the guardians turn to live
While the angel watches over him
Waiting to meet again
