Poem
Hours contemplated, yet words just cease to come, Until I open my eyes and gaze at dawn’s sun I remember words spoken in a haze of a dream, Resting on the thoughtful tongue passed from you to me Ignorance for many a time drew shadows upon my brow, But as moments gain importance, I smile upon the Now I thank God for the present, the future and the past I thank God for you—may your happiness ever last This heart is so keen on showing you the reflection of your light There’s so much more to you, but the little I know is bright Such a beautiful, priceless wisdom we so closely share Despite the distance, we have a connection beyond compare That connection inspires these very words I see them in the eyes of larks, in the wings of the birds And as they take to the sky blue pink heavens, The sun stands still between two mountains in reverence There’s a certain shine there taken far with the breeze, Stirring every morning whisper on the leaves of the trees It is there I seek the gleam of a wondrous green eye A bedazzling spark spirals as transparent as the sky That shine grows whenever thought traces your shade, Leading me to a place where splendor never fades I cannot quite fathom why these words do surmise Even now as I write, they take me by surprise These sentiments become clouded in darkness at times Emotion cries for significance and words just lose their rhymes But still they flourish, like the bud of the midnight rose Blooming for daytime dimples and lofty cock-crows Through adventurous verse of glorious morning song, There’s a trust so small that you will tag along Understand that I write only to lift you far Hoping this will reach the heights to where you are Each eye sees differently, yet few minds connect Few hearts allow such ardent light to reflect You are good, and hold a powerful array One that spreads color, a sunset to end the day You may find many fortresses falling all around, But you remain kind and strong, lifting those that are down It must be in your nature, or in the paths you roam Even as many come to ruins, hope is etched on every stone That hope remains in you and it need not be said That it is the life you live—the very ground you tread You are one of few favorite thoughts of mine Your words are clever and your smile is divine I look forward to every single night, Picturing your smile as you walk into the light And I always thank God for you and pray That you will always shine, each and every day 1/11/13 to DW
