Poem

A course of obstacles await
in corridors along Life's way
behind the doors there lies our fate
in tangled chests of junk and jewels,
you can't know which from day to day...

Behind one may be tears and pain
some may hold anger and disdain
behind the next a laughing bliss,
that wraps your will round merry spools
while others house a lover's kiss.

And some bear darkness, some bear light
while traveling the house of life
but open all each human must
and improvise you’re skills and tools;
within yourself you have to trust.

And should you grow afraid to face
what may still fill an anxious place
you have to go back to the room;
though taunts and teasing there are cruel,
and know the beasts behind are doomed.

Oh, you may come to have regrets
exploring rooms that pain begets
but what if peace replaces aches
with sweet salvation spared for fools;
is that too what you would forsake?

What if the door you skipped contained
forgiveness, hope, escape from pain,
the keys to love; to someone's heart
the wisdom through life’s feckless rules
and access to a brand new start?

The soul within the corridor
can never live, can't hope for more,
until they learn they can’t deceive
the fire inside; the spirit who’ll
spread hope in dreams you've yet to weave.

Oh, you can dream an empty dream
but you won’t rouse your heart’s regime
while camping in the corridor,
nor stagger battled worn to duels
and still defeat the odds once more…

until you open up a door.
