The Sun By Kevin Robey February 1, 2013 Damn this sun, it really burns Why do you smile when it returns? You spread your eyes, take in the light Your beautiful sky, so blue and bright Through harmonies of breeze in the air You feel its warm touch lifting your hair This world you see is wonderful indeed But this dark disease has a hold over me The sun that I see is burning my mind It pierces my eyes, leaving me blind The rays on me are burning my skin My skies dead seas, drowning me again I smell disease in every sprouting seed Can't you see it's all poison to me? Leaves carry songs forever left unsung The air that I breathe is burning my lungs This life of misery is slowly killing me Addiction telling me the man I'll never be Can't conceal these self-imposed wounds My tears are like ashes, filling my tomb You see my tired smile, alive and well Still telling lies my eyes no longer sell Crashing into futures I used to think were true My prison of malice; I'll never break through Then I see a girl, her cell next to mine Her smile is faded, and her eyes are blind Her skin is scarred, with self-imposed wounds Her lungs are burned, and tears fill her tomb Come with me my dear old friend We'll drive away these scars again Let’s escape the flames together Find shelter from this tortured weather A place where sun shines again and trees bloom Where light is pure, and time heals our wounds We'll purify our scars with hands that hold the truth And re-imagine dreams we lost back in our youth A simple place remains for souls like us in pain If we can just survive the acid in our veins So what do you say, my dear old friend? Let’s find a place where scars can mend Down treacherous roads with gaping potholes Armed with stolen hearts and war-torn souls Please take my hand, together we are stronger Let’s walk ahead, and burn just a little longer
