Poem

I say I want peace
Yet I hate my brother
Perhaps not the right word
In reality I fear him
Will he take what is mine
These things I feel are so important
My colored beads
The sweat of my brow
My security 
My piece of mind

Will he come like a thief in the night
Devour my children
My way of life
My imaginary freedom
I do not allow my heart to be swayed
I am ever vigilant
Unable to hear
Picking out prickly words
Hanging on inconsistencies 
Believing I am righteous 
Some how God is on my side
How can He be on both
I look through clouded eyes
Through the veil of my own deceit

Still I am told to love my brother
Turn the other cheek
Allow God to fight the battle
Unable to practice what I preach
I have met the war mongers
They are reflected in our mirrors
We gather around banquet tables
Drive our fancy cars
Enslave others children
All the while we live in sanctimonious bliss

Peace can never exist
Without sacrifice
We must live with less
Stop sacrificing lives
Think along different lines
Peace starts within our minds
Only then can it be real
It requires many spokes
To strengthen this wheel
Let us all dine
Sit at prosperity's table
Share God's bounty
Join peaceably
Enjoy this blessed meal
