Poem
You sought to spread God’s holy word But Vincent, your voice went unheard To another passion you turned In that fire, oh how you burned The whirlwinds of your troubled mind Were birthed onto your canvass fine As sweeping twirls up in the sky Vincent, you tried to reason why You fought to ease away your pain You daily tried to remain sane Brilliant yellow dripped from your brush Brought on by the absinthe hush Of the dread toxin, not aware But it added to your despair Flowers your brush strokes brought to life You struggled on despite the strife Those vibrant colors, vivid hues Did not provide your daily dues Only one painting did you sell Tormented in a poor man’s hell Many self-portraits, but who knew To save money, yourself you drew Your own model, a looking glass The hours you did slowly pass Sweet Vincent, your dear troubled mind A quiet haven could not find If I could travel back in time I’d give you rest in love sublime Vincent, she turned your love to jest Yet still you tried, you tried your best All around you, beauty you saw Your legacy- my heart’s in awe Brilliant colors dipped in your dreams But who could hear those inner screams? “Starry Night” turned to blackened sky You bled to death, still wondering why The world can be so harsh and cruel They see the rough, and not the jewel Your brilliant blue eyes still live on Now that all your demons have gone Now the whole world knows who you are Vincent, the yellow orb, the star I walk beneath your “Starry Night” My saddened soul to fill with light For your troubled mind, I still weep The fight to stay sane, mine to keep Famous finally after death Vincent, you take away my breath. Eileen Manassian Ghali How I love Van Gogh! Why? Because of the beauty that poured out of his troubled mind. I feel an affinity with him. He suffered from epilepsy and some believe that he was bipolar due to the sheer volume of work produced during fits of mania. A troubled mind...not everyone has the fortitude to deal with a troubled soul. I should know. Every time I hear the song "Starry Starry Night" by Don Mclean..I want to cry to purify my soul. "But I could have told you Vincent, this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you." Here is the link. Listen to it, and remember me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxHnRfhDmrk Here is a quote from Vincent: "We spend our whole lives in unconscious exercise of the art of expressing our thoughts with the help of words."
