INNER SANCTUM The eyes reveal a man’s inner world Laying bare his demons Those who seek to know him better May glimpse the truths he guards Carefully within Illuminating what he feels he must hide The eyes Drag us in Captivating us Bringing many questions to the fore The depth of despair he inhabits Causes a tear of pity to suddenly appear Highlighting our humanity Despite a stranger he may be Body language says things unsaid Highlighting issues veiled and cautious words Wish to smother The evident spasms of movement Are at odds with protestations Of I am ok Emotions that tempestuously wage war Within our psyche must find a way out No fool proof self-control plan exists That can stop a tear drop When life’s burdens have become overwhelming If we are to quell the burning rage we often feel And try so hard to contain We must open up occasionally Laying ourselves bare Letting people in If only fleetingly A man with no issues Or burdens to bear Is a man no longer alive to witness The turbulence of life A consuming rage is what life can often be Interspersed with calm glades That graciously provide healing time And let’s a soul mend and recoup Pride can deter that needed solace From those held dear Or those in tune to the vibes the needy emit People do care The burden of helping can be great But a friend can be found Both new and old Who can bear if just for a while The load of what some may find Excessively hard to carry alone Life is for living Assess what you have before you reach out For what you think you must have Accept the skin you’re in There are many ways to enjoy The gift of living
