Our currency, notes and change both, say In God We Trust. So why does our public schools teach evolution and forbid kids to fold their hands in prayer? Why do we so blindly defend something as insignificant as territory, a piece of land on the map? It seems to me we're so concerned about offending other religions and other people's beliefs that we forget to have our own. It seems to me we're just so accepting of everything, and yet somehow, we don't even accept ourselves or show any real genuine trust for those 535 people in Congress. People stand up and say "I will fight for my country!". And everyone will say it's such a noble thing to do. But what about the people that say "I will fight for my wife and children. I will try my best to make sure they live good long lives, and not under what YOU wish me to believe, but what I know in my heart is right." Why don't those people ever get broadcasted on National News? How come the First Lady's fashion sense or Clinton's sex scandal take precedence over that? My purpose in writing this is not too blame all of the worlds problems on America. God knows that's not true. My purpose is to let you know that America isn't the epitome of good will and freedom, as it's claimed to be, for no such country exists. You shouldn't look for the golden standard in countries, but instead seek out the golden standard in people that MAKE up the country. My message is simple and straight forward: look deep inside yourself and really ask yourself "What do you believe in? And who do you stand for?". Turn on that dusty switch inside your head, and take control of your own thoughts, your own actions. And maybe then America will become what it once was. NOTE: I understand that most people probably don't expect to read a lot of political stuff, when they get on Poetry Soup. But in my humble opinion, poetry or not, I still wish to express myself openly here. And I hope that's okay with you guys...
