Poem
I am a blade of grass A victim of the world Just here until the earth stops providing Until the earth stops its twirl. I am a whisper in the wind A secret in your ear If you play your cards right, Maybe someday, you will hear. I am a feather from an angel’s wing Flapping in the breeze Strength for those who need me Whom I try so hard to please. I am just a child Who is all alone in her thoughts Left to brave the dark hallway of my mind Looking for the rhythms to be sought. I am a little flower Searching through darkness to the light Trying to make her place known in the world And just trying to take flight. All you see is just a little girl Blessed with a gift she doesn’t deserve But I must prove that you are wrong And I must prove to you my worth. I am a poet who tries to find words To express her true feelings Twisting, churning them into rhymes So the reader can do the unreeling. On the outside of my shell, I appear to be on a “happy spree” No problems, heartache, or despair Just a child who is carefree. But inside, I am easily hurt, A fragile, china soul I am a person afraid of change Who never wants to let go. I am a shy, timid doll Sitting on a shelf Waiting for someone to notice and dust her off And introduce her to herself. I do not know exactly who I am, Only what I appear to be I know you’re think that I’m crazy Well, maybe so, but that’s me. I am but a lonely cloud Lost in the sea of stars I long to be like the others But I know I have to raise the bar. This is only my appearance Not what I am inside But if you want to know the true me, You have to find out what I hide. I am a secret-keeper, Concealing my emotions to stay strong Because all my life, I’ve had to care For the ones who don’t think I belong. Well, maybe I don’t belong But I will make my presence known Because that’s just who I am The position to which I have grown. I am a student, A person, A character in our comic strip world, Whose true feelings are rarely ever spoken. I am only trying to find What I need to become a gem Living in this mean, stereotypical world I need to find out who I am.
