Poem
<As the leaves turned to ochre, an embryo fell to the ground. She slept beneath a silvery blanket and awoke with the Sun. It was wonderous, as she burst forth and began her long journey skyward. She stretched toward the light and thrived, her limbs reaching deeply below, to firmly grasp the nourishing earth. Above, they unfurled and welcomed those that settled within her protective bosom. She breathed air, good for all. Her verdant umbrella gently dappled those that nestled at her hem. She bloomed..She was beauty. She was magical! For the blossom swelled and became delicious. Sweet sustenance to all who visited her. She was shrewd!. For, within was her offspring, to be carried far and wide, spreading the goodness of the mother. Her canopy became skeletal as the days shortened. She slept, limbs swathed heavily white. She awoke with the Sun and the cycle began again. The ground shook as they marched ever closer. Trembling, she watched as they tore the hearts from her cousins, who screamed, whilst those monstrous teeth hacked and hewed their way toward her. Eventually, inevitably, it was her turn to shriek and fall with a distressing crash. Her friends fled, no longer safe, no longer cherished. No more good air made from bad breath. Dismembered, she was dragged there, dying now. Disrobed, her fashion was mercilessly restyled, as concrete and steel sprouted in her place. But these imposters would give no sanctuary nor succour. They would give no good air!! What remained of her, was dressed in alien, mournful attire that, itself, was destined to wander the seas, once its own usefulness was spent. Transformed, she was conveyed to her birthplace, now glass and stone, where those, who controlled, waited. The cycle was completed, as they wiped away their filth and flushed her into the tunnels, that now lay beneath her ancient home.>
