Poem
Cobwebs and Dust I was up in the attic of our Lovers Lane home No one else would come up, I was there all alone The place smelled of mothballs, mildew and rust With everything covered in cobwebs and dust I was messing around just like every kid did Trying to find what my Grandpa had hid Then from a back room there came a wind gust That rattled my courage, cobwebs and dust I opened that door and peered deep inside The smell that I smelled told me something had died I turned on my flashlight so my eyes could adjust But all I could see was more cobwebs and dust Then using the flashlight to clear a path through The beam bounced back a light – in fact it showed two Now I, as a kid, nothing much could disgust But it knew it was more than just cobwebs and dust So I inched my way forward to capture my prize When lo and behold, it was two little eyes A petrified squirrel; his body just crust And held to the wall with cobwebs and dust I started to choke then I started to heave I knew it was time for me then to leave I inched my way back for I didn’t trust The sounds that I heard from those cobwebs and dust Had some other creature called that place home I felt that I was no longer alone I then moved so fast thought I might combust Right there in the attic in cobwebs and dust I’ve grown up and moved but my sister lives there Says the attic is clean but I still don’t care I haven’t the need for more wanderlust For any place covered in cobwebs and dust Mdailey 3/6/12 Cobwebs and Dust for the contest
