Poem

and though all the world is falling round their head
they do what they can with what they have &
they make the most of it 
huddled inside a small town in the middle of nowhere
in a town forgotten by the state & a 
state that runs a mostly forgotten country in the middle of
a planet on its way to extinction---
but the fireplace is warm &
the water, still clean,
amazes the most of them,
as it functions to hydrate &
wash them of the everyday toils 
where labor is what matters &
popularity or celebrity
hardly becomes a notion,
where the children do their best to learn &
the parents do their best to stay
together,
even though they are not the type that would need a
reason,
for they spent enough time in the beginning,
picking each other out &
investigating the pros & cons of the situation
where,
inevitably, they considered their options &
found that they had been lucky to stumble upon 
one another, when they did---
this is said to last, until the children grow up &
though one may want to fly from the nest to a greater populated area,
somewhere in the known world,
the others may very well stay
to continue the simple living
to continue the struggle
to just plain live.
