Poem
I Watched Him I Watched Him as they critically said, “He’s but a prophet like Ezekiel or Isaiah.” Claimed there was no evidence, that His mission stood much higher; That He had not come to save them, from their disobedience and sin, And that their mighty God above, would send only a King to win. I Watched Him when I heard , “He’s too humble to align ourselves so tall; For He was born to poverty, no earthly riches he has at all.” For Kings are always wealthy, or should be counted so, But He didn’t pass their judgments; became His mocking and spitting foe. I Watched Him as He traveled, those lonely streets of Jerusalem. Carrying that heavy cross, that pained Him limb to limb. I saw the look of anguish, upon His tear-stained face; His pity for the people, who rejected His love and grace. I Watched Him as He fell, no longer able to bear the heavy load; The deep stripes upon His back, needing to be dressed in some abode; With loving hands to aid His healing, from the pain that Satan sent, Upon His writhing body — such evil hatred he had vent. I Watched Him as they pierced Him—Blood and water flowed from His side; Symbols of our cleansing, when in Him we choose to abide. I heard Him say, “My father – Why have you forsaken me?” Was it not enough for him to die upon a tree? I Watched Him as they took Him down; His legs had not been broken, Because He died so quickly, His death, a sacrificial token. Victory won over evil, although this is not what appeared; It seemed instead He’d failed, when His enemies cruelly cheered. I Watched and saw no understanding, of the scene before their eyes, And that one day there’d be justice, for their scheming and their lies. They knew not that death itself, couldn’t hold down One so great, So when He arose from the grave, they ignored His sanctified state. I Watched His ascension from Mount Olives; His often times favorite place; Heard the angels in heaven singing, until there was no trace. Not even the clouds of ascension, that encompassed Him on that day, Could be found across the sky, for the wind had blown them away.
