Poem
Crack me open, Know me well, You''ll see that there's a heart in me. I smile, I weep, I yell and scream. I have a heart in my core. Caress my skin, Is it soft? Am I warm to the touch? You'll come to find that senses deceive. As supple and sweet as I may feel, My wall is up. It's rigid and icy, but at least, I'm not empty, I'm just hardened. I sigh, I yawn, I close my eyes. The world is wearing me down. The elements corrode me to simplicity. I feel wind through the cracks. No insulation makes a home feel like a shack. I shiver, beaten by rain and snow. My vulnerability is inevitable, But it's also visible. My wall is destroyed, I am left alone, but at least, I'm not hardened, I'm just tired. I rest for seven thousand years, Perhaps it's only what it feels to be. I wake to the sun. I stretch and glance around. Am I the only living thing? Color has been sucked from Earth, Brown grass, brown leaves, and not a sound. Not a wisp of wind or a scurrying mouse. But you're here with me. I'm alert now, aware of my weakness. There is no trust anymore, You left me, remember? I could walk forever without a soul but my own, Because I'm not tired, I'm just bitter. My journey continues into time and space I can't comprehend. I have time to reflect on what has happened, Time to forgive you, Time to forgive nature, I see life and death, Every minute of every day. Why should I be bitter towards what you can't control? Why should I be tired when there's so much life to live? Why should I be hardened when there's so much love to give? Love... I forgot what it feels like. To love. Emotions seem out of my reach. I cannot feel. Crack me open once more, And you'll come to find, I've been worn down past my limit, I'm not tired, I'm just empty.
