after years of finding “the one” &
then finding out said “one” was in fact
not “the one,”
after getting used & spit out,
used & spit out,
used & spit out,
so much so that the need for anything but a shoulder to 
cry on,
has been beat out of you,
it is that shoulder 
(whomever it might be)
that you have come to know in the deepest sense,
for that shoulder is also connected to an ear,
and that ear always listens,
no matter how many times you repeat the same exact
stupid actions,
s/he is there for you,
time & time again---
ask yourself if you are there for this person,
this sensitive shoulder,
on whom you have cried many a river.

often the shoulder is that of a person 
who is attractive---
often, you find yourself wondering just why it is 
that you haven’t connected in an intimate fashion with 
the sensitive shouldered one &
in the back of your mind,
you feel that when the two of you come around to it,
the perfect match will finally occur.

but the years of our passing do not decrease,
and the intent to wait before allowing the sensitive shoulder
to know how you really feel,
may not keep away someone from
finding it out for themselves &
scooping up s/he whom you have invested so much 
trust in.
