Poem

I can only imagine
The pain that you felt
When you were flogged;
So unmercifully dealt.
When those Roman soldiers
Nailed you to the cross,
The physical pain you experienced;
Your Father’s presence a great loss.

I can only imagine
Your frustration to know
That at any time
To heaven you could go;
Resist your enemies, the Rabbis 
And the Romans too;
Yet remain on the cross
For undeserving sinners without virtue.

I can only imagine
How tiring it must have been,
To deal with man’s ignorance;
Lack of faith so plainly seen.
How hard to be humble
When blessed with such power,
That you suppressed
Up until your final hour!

I can only imagine
The joy that filled your heart
To be called from your grave—
New life to impart.
Reunited with Your Father;
Once again feel His love,
After the separation
Man’s sin caused from above.

I can only imagine
The joy experienced in heaven
When you ascended to your Father;
The Holy Spirit to man given.
All because you sacrificed
Your life on that rugged cross;
Suffered and died that none
Need suffer eternal death and loss.
