Yo Soy Un Inmigrante Ilegal

Carlos knows to be here he has no legal right 
In Mexico, his family was in a desperate plight
“To see my little children for daily food to cry.
It tore and my heart and made me want to die.”

“To do hard work I was completely able & willing.
Lack of opportunity and hope my soul was chilling.”
To the United States I knew I couldn’t legally go
But it was a risk that I was willing to take, though.”

“To rescue my family from such poverty and strife,
I decided I was willing to risk losing my very life.”
My wife and little ones crossed the border with fear.
Every moment, we expected a police siren to hear.”

“Despite the danger, my family made it all the way
To the town where we hoped to work and stay.”
Soon it was employment that I was able to obtain.
Hope began to grow that perhaps we could remain.”

“Then a new law was passed so as to drive us out.
We were forced to hide with greatest fear and doubt.”
But we were eventually caught and forced to depart
To see my family tremble and cry broke my heart.”
