Poem
Alone on the shoreline in the land of the fairies where there is no light and only darkness a young fairy cries her blond hair braided back her wings frail and translucent her clothes light and white She finds a pebble on the shore the clouds swoop in the rain falls the tears drip onto the pebble And then, suddenly cupped in her hand where the little stone was there was a spot of light like a drop of the sun but she was a selfish little girl and she hid the light instead of sharing it's gift with the rest of the land And as she grew older she visited the precious light alone on the shoreline giving her hope and joy while the other fairies were submerged in darkness She held it in her hand and she kept it close and forgot all about sharing and forgot the other fairies as she basked in the warmth of the gift of the clouds And then one day another fairy found the sunlight while walking along the coast and she was dazzled by it and brought it to the queen who wished to share it with all but the fairy cloaked in white refused to relinquish the light to the world of the fairies so the queen gave the light back but not before taking a piece and then returning the spot of hope to the selfish fairy Every day the fairy went to the light and coveted it keeping it hidden on the shoreline once more And every day the queen sent one of her servants to steal a tiny sliver of the light and the queen saved every piece kept them separate to grow But one day the selfish fairy looked for her light and there was nothing left and she stormed the palace angry with the queen for taking the light from her The queen showed the fairy the lights she had grown and then she opened a bottle and let one go But the fairy was crafty and she broke all the jars and all the lights floated to the heavens to become the stars and the queen cursed the fairy to live alone with the light she had loved so much and so the fairy became the moon shining down on the land of the fairies but when the queen realized that the fairy could wreak havoc on the world from where she was The queen became the sun taking the first piece of precious light that she had taken by herself and she chased the fairy out of the kingdom every day for eternity and so the queen and the fairy both loved the light and lived up there forever with a dreamlike joy gifting the world with sun the moon and the hundreds of stars ~~~ First place in the contest: Land of the Fairies
