"Fragments and crumbs of life, all the little pieces" ---John Ruskin, 1853 Are being gathered by the Angels and presented to the Lord. They will be there at judgment time in all their shame or glory As evidence of my faithful adherence to His Word. Many times my life has crumbled and I’ve promised to do better. No changes can I make to deeds once done or words once said. The angels will not miss a single sliver of the remnants Of the goodness or the baseness in the earthly life I’ve led. God has a different measure than the judges of the world. He may deem my sin more evil than the murderer’s vile deed, If I have not loved my neighbor and have failed to feed His hungry Or been aware of his commandments and have simply failed to heed. My faithful parents taught me to be servant of the Lord. If I should fail it's not their fault but mine alone. And now I come to you Lord in tearful supplication Please forgive me for forgetting You and struggling on my own. You sent your Son to save us with admonition to believe, If we give to Him our burdens all our sins will be forgiven. With arrogance I tarried, thinking his help wasn’t needed, I had led a life so blameless, I could earn my way to Heaven. One of the Heavenly Beings who is gathering the pieces, Is my own Guardian Angel who has been with me always. He has shown me the pieces that were blacker than the others And are shouting of my failures and the error of my ways. Sins of omission there as well as dark sins of commission. I pray Lord that you strike them from my open book of Life. I beg before my sands run out that I may be forgiven And I come to you in glory when I leave this world of strife.
