The Fortune-Teller

A big, red sign to the passers-by does call:
Reads, “Sister Mary Sees All, Knows All”
On one side is a very big hand painted red
On the other, it’s “Crystal Ball” that’s said

But if of the future Mary is able to keep track,
Why need she live in a run-down little shack?
And why is there parked right there by her door
A shabby old Chevrolet made back in 1994?

Sister Mary knows what the future does hold?
Then she ought to be living in a palace of gold
Every single racing bet the wise seer would win
She’s know the winner before the horse did begin

And even which of the stocks would rise or fall
Those to buy or sell, Mary would know them all
These are just a few of the practical reasons why
When I see a fortune-teller, I drive right on by
