Poem
From far away there came a plea: A princess was in need. With plans in place to set her free, A brave, bold knight approached with speed. He reached the tower saying “I’ll save you, my dear girl. I have no rope to rescue you; I must mount upon your curl. Your beauty is a legend; now please let down your hair. I’ll face both fear and danger to bring you out of there.” But oh, alas, this is so sad; It made the knight appear a cad. For Rapunzel had forgotten The dye she used was rotten. Her golden locks now brittle; The weight they bore but little. The prince came near and then surveyed, the lovely golden strands; He took a breath, then grabbed ahold with strong and willing hands. The golden locks, sent from above, split and frayed, then broke away, And fell upon the prince down there like brittle bits of hay . She looked upon her saving knight And said “It doesn’t matter. I know that I must look a sight, But wait, I have a ladder.” The prince looked up in shock and fright; His face was furrowed, his mouth was tight. He said “I wish my heart could say My love for you did not split away. I cannot bring you down, I fear. I’ll send someone else to help you, dear.” She looked upon this fickle knight, Surrounded by her locks so bright; And then she dropped the ladder And made the knight much flatter. Revenge is sweet, she told herself, There is no need to cry or speak. My tonic sits upon the shelf: “Grow Long Hair In Just One Week”. [based on the German Fairy Tale 'Rapunzel' by the Brothers Grimm]
