Why the puzzle look as she passes you by on the street?
Does it bother you that she walks by without a glance your way?
I fail to see how her action could cause such consternation
When you once had it all and more, then you threw it away
She was the sugar in your tall glass of iced tea 
The gentle, yet strong hands that broke your  falls
She took the jabs and hits of life, so you could “feel” strong
And when you lacked foresight she gently opened your eyes
She became a wall upon which you'd lean your weary back 
Until, at last you'd stand confident, brave and tall!

Then came the day you no longer needed that wall
You walked and left it crumbling, faded in gray
Then, stripped, emotionally what chance did she have?
Now, like a phoenix rising, she stands fabulous on her own
Yes, you were “the one” that held her eyes so long
Today, as she passed by, she looked straight ahead not at you
What she saw was a blurr; and one notoriously known as, “pity” 
The gentle heart you stole and replaced with a stone, now melting
Has made this solemn vow…“Never again!” to see your face
